The Model 4815 Pressure Cell uses two thick plates welded together at a flexible hinge that helps provide a more uniform pressure distribution, which effectively reduces the severity of point loading when used in granular materials. As with the other models in the 4800 and 3800 Series, changing earth pressures squeeze the two plates together causing a corresponding increase of fluid pressure inside the cell. A vibrating wire pressure transducer converts this pressure into an electrical signal which is transmitted to the readout location.
